I have been looking through the dyeing projects that I have done, and at the posts I have written so far, and I think I am currently out of "How To" posts to write... pretty much everything I do with dyeing is here.
I have covered hand painting, speckled, immersion dyeing, self striping and my few favourite, the skillet cake method. Which means I am running out of ideas for posts....
So is there anything that you guys can think of that might be missing? Is there a technique you are curious about? If I know how to do it, I will write about it, and if I don't, then I will research it and give it a try.
I haven't gotten into any kind of commercial dyes, and at this point, I don't really plan on it anytime soon. As mentioned before, I like that I can use the same equipment for dyeing as I use for cooking. So I can't really answer questions about that, but I do know some people who use them, and could either pass questions on to them, or tell you how to get in contact with them.
For now, I am going to finish my next pair of mosaic socks (I may have finally gotten the right combination to get the fit I want), and then I will jump back into some more dyeing. I can at least post the results of the stuff that I dye. And I may do a post or two that shows off the stuff I have dyed already, and maybe even the socks I have made.
Don't take my silence as a sign that I have forgotten about my blog... just a sign that I have exhausted some of my brain power :)
I think you should do a post on black!
ReplyDeleteOooooh...that is a tough one... but good idea... So far I have not gotten a successful black with food safe dyes, other than in some stripes on a hand painted, but I will definitely look at doing something on it.
DeleteI have just started dyeing my own yarn as well and I'm debating if it's an addiction or a passion! One idea I have but haven't tried, is to take the hank of yarn and get rid of the twist (unskein it) and then pinch off or cover some of the yarn so it stays white and then do some sort of striping or dyeing technique in the unwrapped sections so when you're done you have sections of white.
ReplyDeleteI like your blog. Is there a way to "follow" it?
I follow it using the RSS feed. I have a Feedly account, which I can enter in the url to this blog and then add it to my feeds. Then I use an app called gReader (Android) which notifies me on my phone when there is a new post from one of the blogs I follow. It isn't as complicated as it sounds lol! If you search for RSS reader, you can find more information.
DeleteThanks Katrina for the info on RSS... I don't use it yet, so I am not that well versed on it.
DeleteLisa - You are talking about resists in dyeing. They are a lot of fun. The What a Kool Way to Dye group just did them recently as a Dye-A-Long. You should check them out on Ravelry. I may try to do one for here though.
Have you tried solar or ice dyeing yet? Would be interested to see the results on finished yarn.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried either of those yet, but I know there are a bunch of people in the What A Kool Way to Dye group that have done that. I may look at doing it when the weather gets nicer here :)
